Planning Updates

Hello UC Blue Ash Students;

We’re looking forward to the Fall 2020 Semester and want to make sure you have the latest information on the schedule and plans. We are here for you, as always, to support your success.

Below are helpful tips for online learning, information about our campus services, and details for accessing our support services.

  • Online courses
    • You can get tips for online learning in this video from a fellow UC student or from this Top 10 list created by UC Online.
    • Be sure to have a computer with a webcam and access to wi-fi.
    • Many of our online courses will meet on a regular basis at set times. This helps students connect more easily with their professor and fellow classmates.
    • Watch your UC email and check Canvas for information from your professors about your classes.
  • Attending in-person classes or labs on campus
    • All students, faculty, staff and guests will be required to wear a mask when on campus this fall.
    • Everyone should practice social distancing when on campus. We are preparing our campus to provide for social distancing in areas that will be open.
    • Watch for updates from your professors or program director about information specific to the classes you are taking.
  • Accessing our services
    • Please know that we are here for you, even if we can’t meet with you in person. We continue to provide all of the services and outstanding support you expect from our college.
    • You can meet with your academic advisor, schedule a time with an academic tutor, talk to our One Stop associates and much more through our virtual connections.
    • Get the latest information on the best ways to access our different services and offices on our COVID-19 Campus Response page.
  • Coming to campus
    • The UC Blue Ash Bookstore plans to open on August 17. You can order books and supplies now and choose to have them shipped or pick them up beginning on August 17.
      • All orders placed through the UC Blue Ash Bookstore are currently offering FREE ground shipping – no minimum dollar amount or promo code required.
    • We plan to open the Bleecker St. Café, Muntz Hall Commons, Library and Computer Concourse for student access with the start of the fall semester on August 24.
      • Please watch for more details on the schedules for these on-campus services.
    • We will have designated areas on campus where students can access wi-fi if needed.
  • Obtaining parking permits & student IDs
    • To have your parking permit mailed to your home before the fall semester begins, you must submit your request by August 9. You can register for your parking permit through our parking portal. There is no charge for the permit, but registering gives us the information needed to issue it to you. Check out this helpful video on how to complete your registration.
    • New students can request to have their student ID mailed to their home. You must be new to UC and submit your information by August 7 for your Bearcat card to be mailed before the fall semester begins. Visit the Photo ID Sign-Up webpage and login with your 6+2 to upload a passport-style photo for your ID. You will also need to verify your identity with a government-issued ID.
    • Questions: Contact 513-556-4925 or techserv@ucmail.uc.edu.

We hope this information is helpful. You can also get the latest updates on the University’s COVID-19 planning online.

Consistent with the approach across the University, we plan to provide the majority of courses online this fall to help support the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We are also planning in-person learning for certain courses and labs, while providing enhanced health and safety measures. It’s important to note that some of our online courses will be in a synchronous format, which means they meet regularly at designated times via WebEx or Teams. This format provides opportunities for consistent interaction with the professor and fellow classmates where students can ask questions, discuss ideas and still enjoy the benefits of a small class.

Our faculty and staff are preparing for this new era of living and learning to make sure the courses and support services we offer will continue to adhere to our high standards and meet the expectations of our students. Below is information that may help answer questions and provide some guidance as you register for classes and finalize your plans for the fall.  We encourage you to contact your academic advisor, if you haven’t already. You can schedule a time to meet virtually with your advisor through Starfish, by email at advising@ucblueash.edu or by phone at 513-745-5753.

  • Fall classes begin on Monday, August 24 and end on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.
    • Your courses after Thanksgiving Break will be delivered online (there could be some exceptions for health care programs/labs).
    • Final exams will be given in an online format between December 3 – 8, 2020 (these dates apply to full-term courses).
  • Please make sure you have a computer with a webcam and access to wi-fi.
  • The Reading Days this fall will be regular instructional days, so we can keep the semester moving at an efficient pace.
  • As we finish up the schedule for fall classes, you may receive notices for each individual course regarding any changes in the course format. Check Catalyst under the class details for a note regarding sections that are changing to a synchronous or asynchronous online or hybrid format – see definitions for these terms below. Please check your final schedule carefully when you receive these notices and check back again before the semester begins for updates and details.
  • At the start of the semester, please check your email and Canvas for instructions regarding your courses. Faculty will be contacting you and will expect you to respond in a timely manner.
  • Below are definitions for key words that might appear on your course schedule.
    • Synchronous Online Course = an online class with required attendance at designated times on WebEx, Teams, Zoom, etc.
    • Asynchronous Online Course (traditional online course) = this class is entirely online without any specified meeting times.
    • Hybrid or Blended Course = the class will meet in-person at scheduled times, with the rest of the work completed online. Any hybrid sections participating in staggered attendance will be determined by the instructor.

Here are two videos from UC about plans for the fall semester and tips for online learning.

We hope this information is helpful. If you have questions, please contact your academic advisor.
