Placement Testing Requirements

Placement tests will assist advisors in placing you in the correct classes. You are strongly encouraged to take all your placement tests at the earliest session available to you. Learn about which placement tests you need to take by comparing the charts and information below. 

Math Placement Test Requirements

You may not need to take the math placement test if you meet the criteria defined below. Use the chart below to determine if you need to take the math placement test according to your ACT/SAT scores:

No math score on ACT or SAT Yes - Take Math Placement

Note: Students with transfer credit for college level math or a score of 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam DO NOT need to take the Math Placement Exam, regardless of ACT/SAT scores. These scores must be on file with UC inorder to qualify for exemption. It will not be applied automatically.

English Placement Test Requirements

You may not need to take the English placement test if you meet the criteria defined below. Use the chart below to determine if you need to take the English placement test, according to your ACT/SAT scores:

SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing score

**Please note the SAT Evidence Based Reading and Writing Score will increase to 480 beginning Summer 2019.**

No writing score on ACT or SAT Yes - Take English Placement

For additional information regarding the difference in scoring between the SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing, Writing Score, and Critical Reading score, please visit the Univerity of Cincinnati's English Placement Testing Hub.

NOTE: Students with transfer credit for English Composition or a score of 3 or higher on the AP English Language or Literature exam DO NOT take the English placement, regardless of the ACT and/or SAT scores.

These scores must be on file with UC in order to qualify for exemption. It will not be applied automatically.


Reading Placement Test Requirements - CPAS (College Program for Academic Success) Students Only

The Reading Placement Test is required for all College Program for Academic Success (CPAS) students only, unless qualifying ACT/SAT scores exempt you from the test. The Reading Placement Test must be taken on campus in a proctored enviroment. Use the chart below to determine if you need to complete the Reading Placement Test.

No – You do not need to complete the Reading Placement Test. You are exempt from the READ 0099 - College Reading course.

21 or lower

420 or lower

No - Your scores automatically qualify you for the READ 0099 - College Reading course.

No ACT/SAT Reading Score?

Yes – Take the Reading Placement Test

Score Validity

ACT or SAT Scores

UC Blue Ash College will accept ACT or SAT scores as placement testing exemptions as long as the ACT/SAT has been taken within the last 5 years.

UCBA Placement Test Scores

Placement Test scores are valid for 2 years. Student can not take their UCBA placement test scores and transfer them to another college or university.


Foreign Language Placement Test Requirements

If you are looking to study a foreign language and have prior knowledge of that language from either high school classes or other means, you will want to take a placement test to see what level you are at with that language.

How to Submit ACT or SAT scores

Students are able to access their scores online after completion. Use the steps on the submitting scores page to provide your qualifying score.
