Placement Requirements
Placement tests and tools will assist advisors in placing you in the correct classes. You are strongly encouraged to take all your placement tests and tools at the earliest session available to you. Learn about which placement tests/tools you need to take by comparing the charts and information below.
Math Placement Test Requirements
You may not need to take the math placement test if you meet the criteria defined below in the Test Score Thresholds. However, the following programs and majors may require that you take the math placement test:
- Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, Information Technology
- Exploratory pursuing Architecture or Interior Design, Liberal Arts Physics or Math
- Pre-Advanced Medical Imaging Technology, Pre-Business Administration, Pre-Communication Science and Disorders, Pre-Engineering, Pre-Med Lab Sciences
- Secondary Education Chemistry, Secondary Education Life Science, Secondary Education Mathematics

Use the chart below to determine if you need to take the math placement test according to your ACT/SAT scores:

Note: Students with transfer credit for college level math or a score of 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam may be exempt from Math Placement Exam, regardless of ACT/SAT scores.
These scores must be on file with UC in order to qualify for exemption. It will not be applied automatically.
Writing GSP Requirements
You may not need to complete the tool for the Writing Guided Self-Placement if you meet the criteria defined below. Use the chart below to determine if you need to use this tool for writing placement, according to your ACT/SAT scores:

Note: Students with transfer credit for English Composition or a score of 3 or higher on the AP English Language or Literature exam may be exempt from the writing placement, regardless of the ACT and/or SAT scores.
These scores must be on file with UC in order to qualify for exemption. It will not be applied automatically.
Reading Placement Test Requirements
The reading placement test is required for students who have a high school GPA below a 2.2 or have earned high school equivalency diploma only, unless qualifying ACT/SAT scores exempt you from the test.

Foreign Language Placement Test Requirements
All heritage speakers (someone who has had exposure to the language at home or in their community from a young age), students who have had two or more years of a high school foreign language, as well as students who have prior knowledge of a foreign language and who wish to continue studying the same language, should take the foreign language placement test prior to registering for a language class. Native speakers (someone who completed schooling through ninth grade or its equivalent in a country other than the US and the primary language of instruction was not English) should also take the placement test in their native language, if they are interested in continuing to study their language formally. Otherwise, native speakers are encouraged to explore other language or culture course offerings. How to Submit ACT or SAT Scores
Students are able to access their scores online after completion. Use the steps on the submitting scores page to provide your qualifying score. Submit your test scores now.
Score Validity
- ACT or SAT Scores: UC Blue Ash College will accept ACT or SAT scores as placement testing exemptions, as long as the ACT/SAT has been taken within the last five years.
- UC Blue Ash Placement Test Scores: Placement Test scores are valid for two years. Student can not take their UCBA placement test scores and transfer them to another college or university.
College Credit Plus Students
If you have College Credit Plus credit that would exempt you from taking the placement tests, please notify the placement testing coordinator at 513-558-9425 or ucbaplacement@uc.edu.
Unless your CCP credit is from the University of Cincinnati, you will need to send an official transcript directly from the college where you received the credit to the following address:
