BounceBack Academic Support Program
Getting Back on Track
BounceBack provides personalized outreach and support for students who are struggling academically. Students who are placed on Academic Alert or returning from University Academic Suspension are eligible for BounceBack services.
BounceBack helps students succeed by:
- Connecting students proactively with academic, financial, and personal resources to support their goals
- Conducting personalized outreach and check-ins at least twice per semester via phone, video chat, email or in person
- Providing coaching to motivate students and build self-advocacy skills
- Monitoring academic progress and having crucial conversations when needed
The goal of BounceBack is to help students rebound from academic challenges and get their education back on a path to success.
Policies
The purpose of University Academic Alert is to provide early notice regarding the urgency of improving academic performance. A student is placed on University Academic Alert when:
- The student has earned a cumulative (overall) GPA of less than 2.0.
- The student has attempted fewer than 30 University of Cincinnati Credit hours. All credit hours that have been completed as well as any credit hours that have been attempted but not completed count in as credit hours attempted for the purposes of determining a UC student’s academic standing status.
Next Steps
To participate in the BounceBack Academic Alert Cohort you must be registered in the current semester. There is a limited capacity in the number of students that can participate.
- You must complete the Academic Alert Survey embedded in the letter that will be emailed to you from the Assistant Dean of Academic Student Affairs.
- You must schedule an appointment to meet with your Academic Advisor.
- You will receive a reach out from our BounceBack Academic Support Program Coordinator to schedule an appointment to begin the process of creating an individualized Academic Success Plan.
A University of Cincinnati student is placed on Academic Probation when:
- The student has earned a cumulative (overall) Grade Point Average (GPA) of less than 2.0.
- The student has attempted 30 OR MORE University of Cincinnati credit hours. All credit hours that have been completed as well as credit hours that have been attempted but not completed count as credits attempted. This would include grades, F, W, UW, I, WX, X and any other credit hours that were attempted, but not completed.
- If receiving financial aid, the student would also be highly likely to have not met Financial Aid Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) eligibility.
Next Steps
- You must schedule an appointment to meet with your Academic Advisor.
- You must complete an Academic Recovery Plan (ARP).
- You will receive outreach support from BounceBack, and other support programs you may be registered with.
If the student does not earn a term GPA of at least 2.0 while on University Academic Probation, the student will be placed on University Academic Suspension. While on University Academic Suspension, the student will not be permitted to enroll in classes for a minimum of one year. If the student has already registered for the classes for a future term, those classes will be administratively dropped (meaning the enrollment is cancelled).
Following a year of academic suspension, a student must apply for readmission to the University of Cincinnati. However, readmission is not automated or guaranteed. The student must submit a written appeal to be considered for readmission. The appeal must be a detailed plan of action that includes how standards for a UC degree can be completed, how past challenges have been resolved, and how success going forward will be attained. Students are required to meet with an academic advisor prior to submitting an appeal. The appeal must be submitted to the Undergraduate Academic Standing Appeals Committee. Should a student be approved for readmission following a University Academic Suspension, the student will be placed on University Academic Probation until the student’s cumulative (overall) GPA reaches 2.0 or above.
Next Steps
- Upon readmission to the college, schedule and meet with your Academic Advisor to review the plan you created within your appeal and receive guidance with registration for the upcoming semester.
- Meet with the BounceBack Academic Support Program Coordinator Academic by the 5th week of the current academic term.
