Why study Pre-Advanced Medical Imaging Technology?
The pre-advanced medical imaging technology associate degree program at Blue Ash College is designed to prepare students for application to the bachelor's degree program in advanced medical imaging technology (AMIT), which is offered by University of Cincinnati's College of Allied Health Sciences.
Currently, the health care industry is undergoing major changes in an effort to control costs and increase efficiencies without compromising professional patient care. In the past, this care was delivered through the utilization of health care specialists. Today, many employers are now seeking to deliver these services by utilizing the talents of multi-skilled health care professionals.
After completing the pre-advanced medical imaging technology degree, students will be prepared to apply for the bachelor's degree program which includes clinical internships in two imaging modalities: nuclear medicine technology and magnetic resonance imaging.
This program is open to all students with a high school diploma or GED and the desire to succeed in college. Although admission is open, students accepted into the program must meet the academic standards of the program to advance to upper levels of study.
- High school chemistry and biology with a grade of "C" or better
- Placement into English Composition I and College Algebra I on the UC Blue Ash College placement test
- Students lacking these required prerequisites may take equivalent courses at UC Blue Ash College
Students must have an aptitude for math and science. Successful health care professionals must want to help others, be able to work as part of a team, possess good verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and have a professional demeanor.
Advanced medical imaging technology bachelor's degree graduates are in demand by various medical imaging laboratories in hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics and research facilities. Advancement in this field may involve promotion to supervisory and administrative positions, equipment and pharmaceutical sales, product support or teaching.
Current and admitted students can locate advisor contact information for pre-AMIT via the advising website: https://www.ucblueash.edu/academics/advising/advisor-list.html.
This program is articulated with the bachelor's degree program in advanced medical imaging technology through the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS).
To graduate from the UC Blue Ash College PAMIT associate degree program, students must complete all required coursework and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for any student wishing to transfer to the UC College of Allied Health Sciences. However, students must also undergo a selective and competitive admission process in order to be admitted into the junior portion of the BS program in advanced medical imaging technology. This process involves consideration of academic qualifications, experience and an interview. While a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is recommended, it does not guarantee admission into the program. Grades of 'B' or better are required in the biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology and physics courses.
Students who complete the radiologic technology program at UC Blue Ash College are also eligible to apply for transfer to the advanced medical imaging technology program upon completion of additional course work.
