Student Success Profile: Emerald Shockley
Emerald Shockley has always felt a calling to help others, so she gravitated toward a career in nursing. Being an exceptional student, she had her choice of colleges to attend. She found the perfect nursing program and the kind of college experience she was looking for close to home at UC Blue Ash.
“I really like that the campus is small and friendly, and that the class sizes are small. Everybody is your cheerleader. From your professors to your classmates, to the dean of the college, everybody really is here for you.”
Emerald also found a campus community that is diverse, fun and engaging. Along with being in our Honors program, she joined the Sister Circle student organization, and served as a student orientation leader and student ambassador.
“College is an investment in yourself, and you don’t want to waste that investment. So, if there is something I can learn from, like a club or an experience from talking to somebody, I’ve taught myself to just go after it.”
Emerald started her career as a registered nurse while continuing her education at UC’s College of Nursing. Her future plans include becoming a nurse practitioner and possibly pursuing her doctorate.
