Mackenzie Sauer admits that she underestimated how challenging the transition to college could be. She was an honor roll student in high school who didn’t really have to study much to get very good grades.
Mackenzie came to UC Blue Ash with plans to major in nursing. She received a wake-up call about just how challenging college can be when she struggled to pass her anatomy and physiology course in her first year.
“I got a C in the class, but I’m a perfectionist, so I knew that was not going to work for me. I also knew that anatomy was a very important part of nursing.”
Mackenzie took the course a second time and became much more focused on being prepared for all of her classes. She credits her professors with spending extra time with her outside of class to encourage her and help her learn how to study effectively.
Mackenzie went on to earn a 4.0 grade-point-average in the very demanding nursing program while serving as president of the Student Nurse Association and mentoring first-year nursing students. Her professors also raved about Mackenzie’s professionalism while on clinical rotations in area hospitals.
UC Blue Ash has been very important when it comes to pursuing my goals. If it weren’t for this school and its affordable tuition, I honestly don’t think I would have gone to college. Anyone that I see, I recommend coming here; because you still get to be a Bearcat, but you get such a unique experience.
