Standing in Solidarity Against Racism 2020 Statement
Diversity and Inclusion Committee Statement
The UC Blue Ash College Diversity and Inclusion Committee* affirms that Black Lives Matter.
We, as a committee representing faculty and staff from across the college, want to make it clear that we stand in solidarity with our Black students, colleagues, and communities. We mourn each Black life that has been lost to police violence, an unjust justice system, inaccessible and inadequate health care, and daily discrimination. We are outraged by, and ashamed of, the continued oppression and murder of Black people of all gender identities, in the United States and abroad. We denounce the oppressive systems that have intentionally excluded Black people for centuries, and we commit ourselves to eliminating those systems from our college and our communities.
We pledge to listen to Black students, faculty, and staff and use their input to make meaningful changes toward our promise of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The process to achieve true equality is a marathon, not a sprint, and we will use all the resources at our disposal to stop systemic racism. We commit to this knowing that there will be a long road ahead toward justice, and that we need the help of our entire UC Blue Ash college community in accomplishing our collective goals.
To our Black students and colleagues at UCBA—we see you, we hear you, we stand with you. We are listening.
*The UCBA Diversity and Inclusion Committee includes faculty and staff representatives from across the college, who have crafted this statement with input from UCBA student affinity groups: Men of Color Collaborative, Sister Circle, Latinos en Accion, and UCBA LGBTQ+ Alliance.
