Why study Health and Allied Health Technology?
Associate of Technical Study degrees are awarded for successful completion of a planned program of study designed to respond to the need for specialized technical education. The Health and Allied Health Technology ATS degree is designed for those who have completed education, training, and certification in:
- Emergency Medical Technology
- Exercise Science
- Massage Therapy
- Medical Assisting
- Medical Sonography
- Optometric Technology
- Practical Nursing
- Radiological
- Surgical Technology
- Patient Care Technology
Students will receive 20-30 college credit for courses completed or training received at other institutions of higher education, career centers, or other educational enterprises judged by UC Blue Ash to be of college level and for which UC awards degree credit. The awarding of college credit is dependent upon the number of completed clock hours of outside education or training.
Admission Requirements
Students entering with 900 clock hours in
- Emergency Medical Technology – Paramedicine AND EMT license AND one (1) of the following certifications: American Red Cross BLS OR American Health Association BLS
- Exercise Science AND ALL of the following credentials from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM): Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) Certification; Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES); Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS)
AND one (1) of the following current credentials: American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) OR American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) - Massage Therapy AND holds a State of Ohio Massage Therapy license
- Medical Assisting AND one (1) of the following credentials: American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
- Medical Sonography AND one (1) of the following credentials: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer OR ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
- Optometric Technology AND holds the American Optometric Association Certified Paraoptometric (CPOT) certification
- Practical Nursing AND holds the National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) NCLEX-PN Licensed Practical Nurse credential
- Radiological (Radiologic Technology) AND holds a State of Ohio Radiographer License OR Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, OR the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board
- Surgical Technology AND holds the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certified Surgical Technologist credential
OR students entering with 600 clock hours in
- Massage Therapy AND holds a State of Ohio Massage Therapy license
- Patient Care Technology AND hold one (1) of the following credentials: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Patient Care Technician; National Health Career Associations (NHA) Patient Care Technician/Assistant; Ohio Department of Health Nurse Aid
AND hold one (1) of the following credentials: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) ECG Technician; National Healthcareer Association (NHA) EKG Technician
AND hold one (1) of the following credentials: National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT); National Healthcareer Association Phlebotomy Technician (CPT); American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Phlebotomy Technician; National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Phlebotomist
AND hold one (1) of the following credentials: American Red Cross or American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ Automated External Defibrillator (AED); American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid
Note that ALL certifications, credentials, and licenses must be current, valid, and in good standing.

When you participate in the ATS program at UC Blue Ash College, you will work with faculty who are experts in their discipline. Class sizes allow for optimal faculty to student and student to student interaction, allowing students to gain knowledge from multiple viewpoints.
Students must complete all university and college requirements for graduation, and maintain a cumulative GPA of no less than 2.0.
Students must submit all transcripts (high school, career center, college, or other institution) to the University of Cincinnati as part of the admission process. Information regarding transcript submission may be found on UCBA's Admissions site.
