Staff Spotlight: J.D. Fye
Program Coordinator, Career Services

When did you start at UC Blue Ash and what are your current responsibilities?
I started here at Blue Ash in March of 2025. I've joined Sarah Grace Mccollough's Career Services team as a Program Coordinator, so we've now doubled the staff for that department! I'm still getting my bearings, but the plan is to have me focus on our student relationships and events, while Sarah Grace continues to foster the employer relationships that she has built up over the few years. I'll be doing things like promoting and running student events, editing professional resources, and setting up one-on-one appointments with students to help them with their resume, interview skills, and job search strategy. In addition, I'll be spending some of my time interacting with alumni. You can find me lurking in the new Student Services wing in Muntz 153A, ambushing students to make sure they're ready for their next career move.
What do you enjoy most about working at UC Blue Ash?
What do you enjoy most about working at UC Blue AshI've really enjoyed the staff, faculty, and environment here at Blue Ash. This is my first foray into the academic realm, and everyone I've met has been happy to act as a resource for me, especially when it comes to explaining the meanings of the various three-letter acronyms I come across on a daily basis. It's absolutely been a big change of pace for me career-wise, but the folks here have made that transition easy. I appreciate all the friendly assistance!

Is there a current/recent book or podcast you’re enjoying?
I'm always reading something, but whether or not that something is actively harming or helping my mind is often in question. I'm currently tearing my way through a number of Warhammer novels, so I'm definitely not advancing my knowledge of anything important for now! Podcast wise, I'm a big fan of Behind the Bastards, a show about terrible people throughout history and their impact on the modern world.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
My typical answer for this question: I'm just an old nerd! I've been collecting and playing video games since I've been a child, and I play a broad range of genres ranging from the classics to modern day PC games. When Covid struck, I got a little sick of staring at screens all day and decided to follow the typical middle aged geek pathway into painting and playing with Warhammer models. The little plastic soldiers now dominate my headspace and free time, when I actually manage to get it.
The real answer to this question: My son is two and I'm due to have another kid in November. Send help.

Is there a fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
Two fun facts, the first of which most people already know because it's my UCBA icebreaker: my wife works for UC as well! She's been the director of the library at UC Clermont for several years now and occasionally shows up here at Blue Ash to collaborate with Heather's team (and embarrass me in front of my new coworkers while she's at it!).
I have a very unusual dog named Charlie. He's a foot and a half tall but weighs about 55 pounds. I've included a picture... so now you can take the test. What kind of dog do you think he is? Bassett hound? Corgi? Technically he's both, but as I've walked him around over the years I've found that most people see him as one or the other. I assume that some sort of personality test could be derived from which sort of dog you see, but I've yet to put in the work for further study.
