Staff Spotlight: Ana Vamadeva
When did you start at UCBA and what are your current responsibilities?
I started at UC with the College of Applied Science (CAS) in September 2005 and found a home with UCBA in fall 2010 when CEAS was created. I have since left UCBA on temporary administrative assignments and returned in fall 2022 as Chair of the Math, Physics and Computer Science Department (MPCS).
What is your favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash?
The favorite thing about working at UCBA is the people. Everyone has always been extremely nice and welcoming and each time I returned, they have embraced me with open arms. My work here is not complete without the opportunity to work with the diverse body of students of this campus. I enjoy teaching and helping them learn mathematics, and I enjoy the beauty of this campus and its surroundings.
What was your reaction to winning the 2023 UC Faculty Senate Service Award?
Winning the Faculty Senate Service Award was humbling and a huge honor. It is an accomplishment that I share with many colleagues and supervisors that not only I have been fortunate to work with, but also have supported my growth throughout my career at UC.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family, dog Oreo, cooking, being a swim parent, traveling and watching sports – namely basketball, football and cricket.
What is one fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
I was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka and was fortunate to leave an ethnic war to pursue a college education. Upon arrival at JFK, my name was shortened due to the insistence of my brother, who said my first name was too long, so my middle name Ananda became “Ana”.
