Pre-Dentistry Program
Pre-dentistry is a pre-professional track that consists of courses in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics which are required for admission consideration by dental schools. Dental schools do not require specific majors such as biology or chemistry. At UC, the requirements may be added to any major. For some majors, this may add extra time to complete all academic requirements. Most dental schools require a baccalaureate degree.
Where It Will Take You
Dentistry requires additional schooling beyond a bachelor's degree. Admission to these professional schools is highly competitive and significant time and expense are involved -- students are encouraged to plan for alternative careers.
Non-Degree Program
Pre-dentistry is not a 4-year major. Instead, it is a collection of courses required for DAT preparation and for dental school admissions: one year each of general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics designed for science majors. Learn more about non-degree programs.
