Staff Spotlight: Erick Carerro
When did you start at UCBA and what are your current responsibilities?
I started as an Academic Program Manager at UCBA in September 2022. I support the Study Abroad Program and the Behavioral Science Department. I also work with the History, Philosophy, and Political Science departments. Additionally, I assist Program Coordinators from Nursing, English, Arts and Visual Comms, and Vet Tech. Before I came to UCBA, I worked in the non-profit sector, primarily supporting volunteers through International Programs and Strategic Planning.
What is your favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash?
I was familiar with UCBA because one of my sons attended Blue Ash for his Psychology degree. I remember the beautiful campus and the small, friendly, and supportive community. As I started in my new role, many people kindly offered to help me to become familiar with the buildings, staff, and challenges of this new position. I enjoy assisting students in finding classrooms, looking for ID cards, or listening to their stories. There are many opportunities to learn at UCBA, and I find this very exciting.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
I enjoy reading, photography, watching movies, and practicing Tai Chi. I also like “weekend travel” to places not far from home. When possible, I visit my grandchildren, who are up in Indianapolis. In addition, I recently became a “cat person,” so time with my kitties is my newest hobby.
What is one fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
I spent a month in Spain making the pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago; enjoy conversations on philosophy, human behaviors, and Eastern religions. I have six children and live happily with my wife, Sarah, in KY.
