Staff Spotlight: Andrew Baker
When did you start at UCBA and what are your current responsibilities?
I began in March 2023 at UC Blue Ash as the Director of Development. As an employee of the UC Foundation my responsibilities are to support the mission of UC Blue Ash by guiding philanthropic dollars to the projects, scholarships, and programs that sustain and improve the learning environment. I work closely with the uptown campus to ensure that UC Blue Ash students have the necessary resources to maximize their education.
What is your favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash?
My favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash is my potential impact. UCBA is a commuter campus with students from various demographics. From first gen. students to continuing education students, this campus has the potential to truly change lives. It is exciting to come to work knowing that the gifts I find each day have a tangible impact on those who are working towards an exciting career and a bright future.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
When not working, doing home improvement projects, cooking, fixing my son’s car, or following my youngest daughter’s equestrian passion, I can be seen performing. What once was a career is now a passionate hobby. I spent 1997-2020 exclusively as a professional brass musician, playing over 200 engagements per year from Wisconsin to Texas while maintaining a private music studio of 40+ students weekly. While it is no longer my profession, music remains an important part of my life. I still perform regularly around Greater Cincinnati with a couple of travel engagements sprinkled in throughout the year.
What is one fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
I love to travel and believe strongly that understanding people can only be done by visiting their environment. My family’s combined music careers have afforded me the ability to travel the world. I’ve been to 7 countries thus far, and when able, go to distinctly different domestic destinations on each trip. So far, I’ve been to 42 states…and counting!
