When did you start at UC Blue Ash and what are your current responsibilities?

I started at UC Blue Ash in September of '24. I coordinate custodial, grounds, mail services, maintenance, and other physical campus needs with the appropriate offices and departments. My responsibilities include anything from overseeing the scheduling of HVAC operations and snow removal, to inspecting completed daily work,  to being a liaison to Public Safety, Food and Parking Services. Basically, if there is an operational problem or issue on campus it is my job to assist in any way I can to help resolve the issue. Previously, I worked at UC Clermont for 15 years. I started at Clermont in Housekeeping, and I worked my way up to being a Maintenance Repair Worker 1 then on to a Maintenance Repair Worker 2. As far as I know I was the first and only woman to hold that position within the entire UC community. I used to refer to myself as a Jane of all Trades.

What is your favorite thing about working or teaching at UC Blue Ash?

The people. I was blown away by how friendly the staff who work here are. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming when I started. Also, the beautiful grounds and park like atmosphere. A sense of calm just washes over me as I do my rounds every day. I also enjoy the energy and activity of this campus, so much life.

Is there a current/recent book or podcast you’re enjoying?

I love to read. I read anything from Science Fiction to Romance to Horror. I grew up with Harry Potter, literally, I had to wait for books 5-7 to be released, and I have read that series more than a dozen times. If a book is good, I will read it more than once, depending on what is going on in your life at the moment you will get something different out of it each time. I enjoy classic Stephen King novels, The Stand (extended version) is one of my all-time favorite books. Nora Roberts is a guilty pleasure, and I have read a good chunk of her books. I received the first book of the Throne of Glass series for Christmas and am currently starting book 2, Crown of Midnight.

What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?

I love to cook. I have a restricted diet, I am a gluten free vegan who eats meat, if you can decipher that one. So, I enjoy the challenge of finding new recipes and altering them to fit my needs. I love to be outside, go hiking, sitting on any kind of beach and I am sure I will add glamping to the list since my husband and I just bought our first camper. My 2 daughters are beyond themselves with excitement and have named the camper Wolfie. I also enjoy doing themed runs, like The Beast of the East Fork, the Tap n Run and the Color Run. I highly enjoy spending time with family and friends and celebrating people's birthdays. And not to brag but I have been called the Queen of Charcuterie by more than one person.

Is there a fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?

I turned 40 in 2024, so from the moment I turned 39 I started a 40x40 list, to the dismay of my husband and children, whom I dragged along with me on many of the adventures. The list contained anything from books I have never read ( I absolutely despised the run on sentence that was "The Catcher in The Rye") to foods and drinks I have never tried ( escargot is amazing and so are mint juleps. I am on the fence about caviar). Places I have never visited in our amazing city ( Spring Grove is breathtaking, Krohns is beautiful, Findlay Market nostalgic, and Serpent Mound humbling). Watched movies I'd never seen (Mary Poppins - I know I know, Schindler's List was devastating, The Godfather - I understand the hype, and Rocky Horror Picture Show). Learned how to play pickle ball and went Apple picking for the first time, I tried colored contacts, went kayaking, got a memorial tattoo in honor of my late father, and smoked an entire cigar. But the biggest, scariest and one of my top 10 best life experiences ever was going skydiving! It was absolutely amazing; my best friend went with me, and we rode that high for weeks afterwards. I am afraid of heights, but 10 out of 10 would do it again in a heartbeat.
