Faculty Spotlight: Nahreen Rahman
Assistant Professor, Business & Economics; 2024 UC Blue Ash Distinguished Award Recipient
Visiting the Taj Mahal in India
When did you start at UCBA and what are your current responsibilities?
I started at UC Blue Ash in 2017 as an adjunct instructor of economics. I recently joined as a full-time faculty in the Business and Economics Department which has opened many opportunities to participate more rigorously in college activities. My faculty role is primarily to teach and engage students in the field of economics while developing and improving our curriculum through scholarship, research and professional development.
What is your favorite thing about working or teaching at UC Blue Ash?
My favorite thing about UCBA is the emphasis we place on students’ overall well-being. The focus is not only on academic success, but a lot of effort is made to ensure students are physically and mentally supported and that they are given all the multifaceted tools to thrive once they leave UCBA. This philosophy also spills over onto staff and faculty creating this feeling of family and community which encouraged me to not only stay, but to also work to become a more permanent member of the college

What is the best advice you received from a fellow faculty member?
The best advice received from several fellow faculty members is various forms of “Just give it a try. What’s the worst that could happen?” My colleagues are extremely supportive and have inspired me to put myself out there. I tend to be risk averse and dislike change, but in education we have to constantly adapt and adjust to our everchanging student body and technology.
Is there a current/recent book or podcast you’re enjoying?
Planet Money is a great podcast to introduce to economics students, I love how the focus starts on some current topic and they are able to tie it back to the economy in a relatable way for anyone to easily digest. For a fun podcast, I went down the rabbit hole on Smartless. When life gets stressful, the dynamic between Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes have me cackling at their brother-like dynamic.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
My favorite activity is travelling. We travel internationally every year (about 32 countries so far) and getting to visit and learn about a different culture, history, food and lifestyle is unmatched with any other experience. Some of my favorite trips have been to South Korea, Tahiti, Dubai/Abu Dhabi, India, Greece, Italy, Egypt and Japan. I also love exploring locally and have found some amazing gems right here in Ohio.
