Staff Spotlight: Brad Mallory
When did you start at UCBA and what are your current responsibilities?
I started at UC Blue Ash in 2006 as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Biology Department. I moved into a Visiting Assistant Professor position and then ultimately into a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor. This past January, I became the first Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence at the college. My main responsibilities in my new role are to lead the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts of the college. This includes working with the Diversity and Inclusion Committee to develop and update the college's DEI strategic plan, and advocating for inclusion in the college's processes, policies, and priorities, including curricular activities, the hiring process, and student co-curricular programming.
What is your favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash?
My favorite thing about working at UC Blue Ash is being able to work with some of the most dedicated, accomplished, talented, and passionate educators towards the college's mission of providing an excellent and accessible education to every student. I also enjoy working with the students, seeing how they grow and develop as scholars, and being able to play some small part in them achieving their academic and career goals.
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
My hobbies include working in my vegetable garden. I get a lot of joy out of starting plants from seeds, transplanting them into larger pots, then moving them into my garden beds. My kids enjoy helping me pick vegetables when they are ready and of course eating the fruits of our labor. I also enjoy bike riding and going on nature walks with my family at many of Cincinnati’s great parks.
What is one fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
I am a big Star Trek fan. Not to the point of dressing up like the characters, but I do really enjoy the Star Trek canon.
